Peterborough United and Rangers move in for Oldham Athletic’s in demand defender

According to a report from Football Insider, League One side Peterborough United and Scottish outfit Rangers have made their move for Oldham Athletic’s young defender George Edmundson.

Football Insider has claimed that there are “offers on the table” from Peterborough United and Rangers for Oldham Athletic’s highly sought after young centre-back George Edmundson.

George Edmundson is attracting masses of interest from football league clubs in the run-up to the summer transfer window. Championship trio Preston North End, Stoke City and Hull City have all been linked with a move for the 21-year-old, as have Sunderland and Fleetwood Town.

But, it is Peterborough United and Rangers who have reportedly made moves to try and secure the youngster’s signature ahead of the 2019/20 season.

Edmundson has been a star performer for Oldham Athletic over the course of the season, playing in an impressive 54 games in all competitions – only missing the final game of the League Two season.

The defender made his professional debut for Oldham back in 2015 and has been a fixture in the Latics’ side since returning from a loan stint with National League side AFC Fylde. Overall, Edmundson has played 79 times for Oldham in all competitions.

With shed loads of interest in the defender from up the football league ladder, Oldham could find it difficult to hold onto their prized asset.

Interest from Peterborough United certainly fits the bill of the kind of player they may look to bring in. The club are hoping to return back to their ways of bringing in young and hungry players to turn them into good players and model professionals. However, Posh chairman and co-owner Darragh MacAnthony has said that the club have already brought in a number of defenders ahead of next season.

Rangers are set to be in the market for a new centre-back, with Joe Worrall returning to parent club Nottingham Forest upon the end of the season.
