Top 50 Players of the EFL – 16th: Max Aarons (Norwich City)

Norwich City defender Max Aarons has been voted by you as the 16th best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Aarons is the 16th best player in the Football League. This is the first time that he has been on the Top 50 Players countdown.

The reason Norwich weren’t labelled as promotion contenders for various reasons. One reason was because of their mediocre year the season before which showed no indication that it was possible. Another was that they didn’t make a big splash in the transfer market and instead they looked to their academy to fill out the squad. While Norwich’s academy is definitely a good one, not many expected many to break through and become stars.

But Aarons came along, the unlikeliest of stars. He came through the Luton Town academy but was picked up by Norwich and only made his debut at the very start of the season in an EFL Cup match against Stevenage. But from there, he only got better. Despite having never played a professional game before 2018, he showed himself to be one of the best full-backs in the Sky Bet Championship, stunning pundits who had no idea who it was. This season he made 43 appearances and was even able to score three goals from the defence. Now he will get a chance to impress in the Premier League following Norwich’s promotion.
