Wigan Athletic defender Reece James has been voted by you as the 17th best player in the EFL.
Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that James is the 17th best player in the Football League. This is the first time that he has been on the Top 50 Players countdown.
When we talked about Mason Mount being voted onto this countdown, we also discussed how many of the Chelsea loanees performed very well this season perhaps in an attempt to get into the Chelsea first team after their transfer embargo takes hold. Now if you remember back to last summer, the Chelsea loanee being hyped was Mount, with some likening him to a young Frank Lampard. No one really batted an eyelid when James signed for Wigan.
But as it turns out, James, who should not be mistaken with the player with the same name who’s currently at Sunderland, impressed our fans more as he ended up being higher on this list and was even called by his manager Paul Cook the best player in the Championship. Obviously, our voters didn’t go as far as that but for a 19-year-old who had never played professional football before moving to Wigan lasts season, 17th place is still pretty good. In his first ever senior season, he made 46 appearances and was even able to contribute with three goals.
