Top 50 Players of the EFL – 18th: James Norwood (Tranmere Rovers)

Tranmere Rovers striker James Norwood has been voted by you as the 18th best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Norwood is the 18th best player in the Football League. This is the first time that he has been on the Top 50 Players countdown.

If you follow non-league football, you’ve known about how good Norwood is for a while. He was an impressive player while at Forest Green Rovers but he only really came into his own when he moved to Tranmere in 2015. Even when Tranmere were stuttering in that league, he was one of their best players and when he hit top form in 2018, that was one of the reasons they were able to get promoted via the play-offs.

And if you thought that playing in the EFL and Sky Bet League Two was going to stop him, you had another thing coming. The fact he was voted so high on this list despite being in League Two which many fans don’t watch shows you how much he has impressed everyone this season. This season he made 52 appearances, scoring 32 goals which included one against former team Forest Green which has sent them to the play-off final. This also made him the top scorer in League Two by a long distance, scoring eight more goals than 2nd place Tyler Walker.
