Top 50 Players of the EFL – 19th: Neal Maupay (Brentford)

Brentford striker Neal Maupay has been voted by you as the 19th best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Maupay is the 19th best player in the Football League. This is the first time that he has been on the Top 50 Players countdown.

It must be frustrating to be a rival of Brentford’s. You think they have had a serious blow when they lose one of their top players and that this might be the year where their form drops and they fall towards the relegation zone. You laugh again when they sign some random foreigner whose never played in the Sky Bet Championship, thinking that they are just going to flame out. But then every time you are forced to be quiet because that foreign signing ends up being amazing and one of the best players in the division.

The latest instance of this happening is Maupay. The 22-year-old striker signed from French side St. Etienne and he didn’t exactly rip things up there or on his loan deal with Brest. Stop giggling in the back. But it turned out he was just waiting for the Championship as he followed up the end of last season form with a whole lot of goals. In his 49 appearances this season, he scored a stunning 28 goals making him the third top scorer in the Championship.
