Middlesbrough midfielder considering offers from the Premier League

Middlesbrough midfielder John Obi Mikel is to consider offers from the Premier League before jetting off to the African Cup of Nations.

According to ESPN, Mikel is wanted by recently promoted Premier League sides Norwich City and Sheffield United, and is expected to depart Middlesbrough this summer.

There are multiple offers on the table and it is believed the Nigerian would prefer a move to the top flight rather than extending his stay in the Championship with the North-East club.

“There are some options right now, and a few more we expect to see over the coming days,” the source told ESPN. “Once all the options are on the table, he will make a decision.”

“He will most likely make the decision before the finals (of the African Cup of Nations), although that will depend on what is on the table,” they added.

Mikel’s best playing days were in the Premier League with Chelsea, where he won the league twice, the FA Cup three times, the League Cup as well as the UEFA Champions League in 2012 and the Europa League in 2013.

Since arriving at Middlesbrough he has gone on to play a staring role in their midfield, playing every league game since he joined in January. Boro just missed out on the Play Offs on the final day despite winning at already relegated Rotherham United.

This could have been Mikel’s last appearance in the red of Middlesbrough, and the Super Eagles captain topped it all off with his first goal in English football since 2013.
