Peterborough United chairman teases possible transfer interest in Plymouth Argyle star

Peterborough United co-owner and chairman Darragh MacAnthony has teased that he could look to make a move for Plymouth Argyle’s star playmaker Ruben Lameiras.

Replying to a tweet from a Plymouth Argyle fan, Peterborough United co-owner and chairman Darragh MacAnthony has teased that he could look into making a move for Argyle star Ruben Lameiras.

When asked if Posh were interested in Lameiras, MacAnthony hinted that he could look to make a move after admitting he did not know he was available for transfer, going on to pass on his thanks for the “heads up”.

Lameiras is availble on a free transfer at the moment, with his contract at Home Park set to expire soon. He has been offered new terms to extend his stay with the newly relegated side, but he is waiting to weigh up all his options before putting pen to paper on a new deal with the club.

French Ligue 1 side Bordeaux have been credited with interest in the former Spurs youngster and a host of football league sides are expected to be interested in the highly rated playmaker.

The 24-year-old has impressed once again in a struggling Plymouth side over the course of this season. In 41 League One games, Lameiras has netted 11 goals, providing nine assists along the way as well. He was a strong performer for the Pilgrims last season as well, scoring six and assisting nine goals in League One, helping the side to a 7th place finish in his first season with the club.

A move for Lameiras would see the competition for a place in the Posh midfield increase even more. Marcus Maddison, Siriki Dembele, Joe Ward and George Cooper are all fighting for a place in the starting eleven next season and the club could’ve already moved to bring in a new player in that position.

MacAnthony admitted on Twitter that they have a new back line sorted for next season, adding that “a few more” positions have been covered as well.
