Ipswich Town set to complete signing of Tranmere Rovers’ 32-goal hotshot

According to the Daily Mirror’s Transfer News live blog (May 15th, 14:59), newly relegated Ipswich Town will complete the signing of Tranmere Rovers striker James Norwood after the League Two Play-Off final.

Tranmere Rovers striker James Norwood is reportedly set to make a permanent move to League One side Ipswich Town after the League Two Play-Off final against Newport County.

Norwood’s stunning form over the course of his four-year spell with Tranmere – most notably this season – has seen him attract significant interest from a number of clubs. Now, he looks set to swap Prenton Park for Portman Road.

The striker’s 29 League One goals make him the top scorer throughout the football league, bagging another three goals in other competitions along the way as well.

But after rejecting a new deal at Tranmere, Norwood looks set to only have one more game to add to his total of 90 goals in Tranmere colours. Rovers would’ve hoped that they could keep hold of their prized asset given their strong season, but with Norwood’s deal up at the end of the season, he has been free to negotiate terms with other sides.

If Norwood does indeed make a move to Ipswich, there is a chance that he will face his current side next season. Tranmere have the chance to make it two successive promotions when they face Newport at Wembley on May 25th.

Prior to joining Tranmere, Norwood enjoyed a prolific spell with Forest Green Rovers. The striker netted 49 goals in 166 games for the club in the National League.
