West Bromwich Albion striker Dwight Gayle has been voted by you as the 21st best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Gayle is the 21st best player in the Football League. This is the first time that he has been on the Top 50 Players countdown.

At the start of this season, West Brom made an impressive swap deal. They sent Salomon Rondon on loan to Newcastle United in order to get his high wage off a Sky Bet Championship wage bill and in return, they got Dwight Gayle in return. While most would argue Rondon is the better striker, Gayle was far more experienced in the Championship and that can often matter in the madcap race for promotion that happens in this division.

And you can see the loan deal paid off with the way Gayle played. While there is a black mark on his time with the Baggies now after getting sent off in the play-offs, especially as his suspension hurt them in the return fixture against Aston Villa and has been blamed for their eventual defeat, he was one of the reasons they got to the play-offs in the first place and that shouldn’t be ignored. In the 41 appearances he made for the club, he scored 24 goals, making him the 4th top scorer in the division. Now we all have to wonder where he will end up next after his loan with West Brom ended.
