Birmingham City striker set to complete pre-contract move away

Football Insider has claimed that Birmingham City striker Greg Stewart will be joining Scottish Premiership side Rangers on a pre-contract deal.

Birmingham City striker Greg Stewart has reportedly put pen to paper on a three-year deal to join Scottish giants Rangers on a free transfer.

The 29-year-old leaves St Andrews after failing to score a goal in his 22 appearances for the club in all competitions. He joined the club from Dundee in 2016 but has spent most of his time as a Birmingham player in Scotland, on loan with Kilmarnock and Aberdeen.

The striker’s contract with the Blues expires this summer and clubs have been looking to get a free transfer done to kickstart summer transfer business. Fellow Championship side Derby County have been credited with interest in Stewart, but he looks set to return to Scotland on a permanent basis with Steven Gerrard’s Rangers.

Stewart enjoyed a prolific first half of the 2018/10 Scottish Premiership season. He joined Kilmarnock on loan last summer and scored an impressive eight goals in 16 appearances, providing seven assists as well.

In January, he made a loan move to another Scottish side, joining Aberdeen until the end of the season. However, he has failed to emulate his strong form. Stewart scored two goals and provided three assists for Aberdeen, but his form has not prevented him from sealing a good summer move.

Prior to this season, Stewart has spent the majority of his career playing in Scotland. He played for Cowdenbeath and Dundee, where he scored 40 goals and 32 goals respectively.
