Sheffield Wednesday are interested in Wigan Athletic midfielder Nick Powell.
The 25-year-old is out of contract next month meaning the Owls are preparing to snap him up on a free transfer, according to journalist Alan Nixon on Twitter.
Sheffield Wednesday could face a battle to hold onto key man Fernando Forestieri this summer with their bitter rivals Sheffield United keen on signing him, as reported by The72. However, Powell is seen as an ideal replacement.
It is expected to be a busy summer at Hillsborough with plenty of comings and goings as Steve Bruce looks to put his own stamp on the Yorkshire side. They have already closing in on the signing of defender Julion Borner from German side Arminia Bielefeld and also want free agent right-back Moses Odubajo.
Powell could also be coming through the entrance door. Bruce knows him well from when he signed him on loan for Hull City in 2016.
The former England Under-21 international started his career at Crewe Alexandra and burst onto the scene for the Cheshire side as a youngster. He earned a £6 million move to Manchester United in 2012 but struggled with injuries at Old Trafford meaning he was loaned out to Wigan, Leicester City and Hull.
He left United in 2016 to re-join Wigan and has impressed ever since for the Latics, scoring 28 goals in three seasons. Powell could now be set for a move to their Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
