Top 50 Players of the EFL – 43rd: Jack Butland (Stoke City)

Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland has been voted by you as the 43rd best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Butland is the 43rd best player in the Football League. This is the first time that he has been on the Top 50 Players countdown.

Butland is probably going to be one of the most well-known players on this list. He’s not known as an EFL player as while he started his career in this division with Birmingham City, he had been making his name with Stoke in the Premier League. He was even able to pick up a few England caps during his time in the top tier. In what was a surprise move, when Stoke were relegated from the Premier League Butland decided to stick with the Potters and have a season in the Championship.

And even though Stoke faltered this season and did not challenge for an immediate return to the Premier League, that was definitely not the fault of Butland. He showed his Premier League class in so many of the games this season and while it wasn’t a good season for the Staffordshire club, it could have been far worse had they not have Butland in the goal. It remains to be seen if Butland will stick around now that another season in the Championship beckons though some reports say it’s not very likely.
