Top 50 Players of the EFL – 49th: Ethan Pinnock (Barnsley)

Barnsley defender Ethan Pinnock has been voted by you as the 49th best player in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have discovered you think that Pinnock is the 49th best player in the Football League. This is the first time that he has been on the Top 50 Players countdown.

The 25-year-old defender is another player to have come through the non-league system. After not being able to break through at Millwall, something the club might regret now, he would move to Dulwich Hamlet and made over 100 appearances before heading to Forest Green Rovers. In his one season at the famously vegan club, he helped them get their historic promotion to the EFL. However he didn’t stick with them and moved to Barnsley.

His first season is not one to remember as the Tykes ended up being relegated from the Sky Bet Championship. But his second season will be on that won’t be forgotten for many years. He was rock solid throughout this season, barely ever missing any time on the pitch as Barnsley grabbed automatic promotion and an instant return to the Championship. While Barnsley’s style of play under Daniel Stendel grabbed all the headlines, you shouldn’t dismiss the reliability they had in the back with Pinnock. If you don’t have the sort of player he is, you aren’t able to play with the freedom they did. That’s why he made it onto this list.
