Top 20 Managers of the EFL – 9th: Paul Warne (Rotherham United)

Rotherham United head coach Paul Warne has been voted by you as the 9th best manager in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have found that you think Warne is the 9th best manager in the Football League. He has moved up nine places from his 18th place finish on this list last year.
Most of the managers who have ended up on this list are on it because either their team got promoted or are in the play-offs or because they managed to get some success despite problems within the club. Warne did neither, this Rotherham team ended up being relegated from the Championship. But the reason he is getting praise and got the votes to place highly on this list is because of the manner of their relegation and the way Rotherham played.
The last time Rotherham were in the Championship, they ended up getting relegated without trace in what was a pretty pathetic display by the Millers. Since then, Warne has transformed the team into a bunch of hard workers who will bring the fight to anyone, no matter their size or budget. So even though Rotherham were a team of rejects who were often picked up for free or cheap due to their small budget, they were able to stun and hold some of the best teams in the division, especially when playing at the New York Stadium. That’s testament to the spirit Warne put into this team and it is easy to predict them going up again.
