Top 20 Managers of the EFL – 16th: Paul Cook (Wigan Athletic)

Wigan Athletic head coach Paul Cook has been voted by you as the 14th best manager in the EFL.

Over the last month, we have been gathering votes from you to find the best managers and players in the EFL. And after counting the votes, we have found that you think Cook is the 16th best manager in the Football League. He has moved down eight places from his 6th place finish on this countdown last season.
Over the last few years, Wigan have gained the reputation of being a yo-yo club, having been relegated twice and promoted twice in the last four years. After getting them promoted back to the Sky Bet Championship last season, Cook was tasked with making sure that they ended their yo-yoing and stayed in the second tier. And he did exactly that with Wigan managing to stay in the division without being threatened that much by relegation.
Part of that was down to some great signings, with the loan deal for Reece James from Chelsea being one of the best of the year considering he was a virtual unknown this time last year. But the club also played with much more confidence that they did the last time they were in this division and they looked much more at home in this league. This has marked Cook as one of the managers to watch in this league and if he can push Wigan even further up the table next season he may even be watched by some in the Premier League.
