Kevin Nancekivell backs Plymouth Argyle to bounce back from relegation

Plymouth Argyle were relegated to League Two yesterday.

Their 3-2 win at home to Scunthorpe United yesterday wasn’t enough to keep them in the third tier.

Goals from Lloyd Jones, Freddie Ladapo and Graeme Carey looked to have done enough to keep the Pilgrims up but results elsewhere meant they have returned to the fourth tier.

Plymouth sacked Derek Adams last week and put first-team coach Kevin Nancekivell in charge for the final day of the season to try and spark a last ditch response.

Nancekivell was left disappointed with their relegation yesterday and told the official club website: “It’s a huge setback, there’s no point in me saying it’s not. We’ve fought so hard to get back to League One after the dark days of administration, and second season back up we’ve failed to stay there.”

“We go back to League Two, it is a massive setback, but, the fans are superb, they’ll stay with us, the new grandstand is coming back up. We’ve got to dust ourselves down and come back stronger”

He added: “We’ve had bigger setbacks. The last seven or eight years we’ve had real heartbreak with administration, etc. We’ve come back from that; we’ve come back strong. There’s no doubt we’ll come back stronger again next season, and the seasons beyond that.”

Plymouth will be in the hunt for a new manager this summer as they aim to get an immediate promotion back to League One.
