Plymouth Argyle star man linked with move to French top flight

Plymouth Argyle playmaker Ruben Lameiras – who is out of contract at the end of the season – is on the radar of French Ligue 1 side Bordeaux, according to a report from the Guardian.

French outfit Bordeaux are interested in Plymouth Argyle’s Portuguese playmaker Ruben Lameiras, the Guardian has claimed.

Bordeaux have already dipped into League One for signings this season, bringing in striker Josh Maja from Sunderland for £4 million in the January transfer window. Now, it seems they are eyeing up a move for another third-tier star.

Ruben Lameiras’ contract with Plymouth Argyle expires at the end of the season and Bordeaux are eyeing him up on a free transfer. The Ligue 1 side will reportedly send a scout from France to watch Lameiras in their final game of the season against Scunthorpe United this Saturday.

The 24-year-old has impressed once again in a struggling Plymouth side over the course of this season. In 40 League One games, Lameiras has netted 11 goals, providing eight assists along the way as well. He was a strong performer for the Pilgrims last season as well, scoring six and assisting nine goals in League One, helping the side to a 7th place finish in his first season with the club.

He started his career in the youth academy with Premier League side Spurs but didn’t make any senior appearances for the club. After a brief stint on loan in Sweden with Atvidabergs, Lameiras made a permanent move to Coventry City in 2015. He played 69 times for the Sky Blues, scoring seven goals and providing six assists before joining Plymouth.
