Barnsley fans react to promotion to the Championship

Barnsley have been promoted back to the Championship.

Peterborough United’s 3-2 away win at third place Portsmouth last night has meant both the Tykes and Luton Town will be playing in the second tier next season.

Barnsley were relegated to League One last season and have bounced back at the first time of asking. They turned to German boss Daniel Stendel and that move has paid off for them now.

Stendel has made the Yorkshire side a real threat going forward and they have caused problems for many teams in the third tier this season. They still have a chance of snatching the title from Luton’s hands on the final day. They are level on points (91) but the Hatters’ goal difference is better by four goals.

A statement on Barnsley’s official club website last night read: “Under the stewardship of Head Coach, Daniel Stendel, we have gone a full season at Oakwell without a league defeat. During the season, we went 20 games unbeaten, equalling a club record. We smashed the club record for clean sheets. We have broken our highest ever points tally. We have achieved immediate promotion following a relegation, for the first time in our history.”
