Plymouth Argyle have parted company with Derek Adams after a poor run of form, as announced by their official club website last night.
The Pilgrims are currently in the bottom three of League One with just a game left to play. They are behind Southend United in 20th on goal difference and need favours from other teams this weekend if they are to avoid slipping into League Two.
Kevin Nancekivell, who is their first-team coach, has been placed in caretaker charge of their crucial game against fellow relegation battlers Scunthorpe United. The72 have picked out five potential candidates for the full-time job.
Plymouth have been on a dire run of form and haven’t won in eight games. Adams was under immense pressure to turn it around but wasn’t able to do so. The Scottish boss took over the Pilgrims in 2015 having previously been at Ross County.
Adams guided them to the League Two Play-Off final in his first season but they lost to AFC Wimbledon. Nevertheless, the Pilgrims bounced back and came 2nd in the next campaign. They then finished an impressive 7th in League One last season, just missing out on a Play-Off place.
It hasn’t gone well this season though and Adams has now departed. Here is how the Plymouth fans have reacted on Twitter-
Sad way to end his managerial spell here, will be forever grateful for the L2 promotion but it just didn’t work out this year. You can’t islolate the heartbeat of the club without getting results and expect to remain in charge. Let’s hope this galvanises the players for Sat #pafc
