Whilst many were happy troughing their eggs and gorging on chocolate, there were equally as many Leeds United fans drying teary eyes as the Whites shuddered over the Easter period.
A 2-1 loss at Elland Road on Good Friday to a Wigan side reduced to 10-men for around 75 minutes was bad enough. This was compounded by a 2-0 Bank Holiday Monday loss on the road to Brentford, a side struggling for consistency this season.
It would be hard to pick out one player to blame, such was the drop off that all were equally feckless in their application to both games. What was a slip soon became a slide and the Whites now need fortune and good grace to gain automatic promotion.
Looking bereft of ideas at times, this has caused some Leeds United fans to question whether they can hoick Spanish playmaker Samu Saiz back from his pretty abject loan in Madrid with La Liga side Getafe.
However, all the pondering can stop as this is a definite no-go move for the Whites. Saiz’s loan to Getafe became legit on January 1 when the month-long winter transfer window opened. When that window closed at the end of January, that locked players to their current clubs until July 1.
That date obviously goes way beyond any football participation that the Whites would be involved in. Should they reach the play-off final, Leeds United’s football for 2018/19 will be over on May 26th.
So, Leeds United fans can stop grasping at the Saiz straw, he wouldn’t be eligible anyhow. Besides, would fans want him if he was eligible?
