Just one team out of three can stay up in League Two with just two games to play. Who will it be?
22nd- Macclesfield Town, 40 points- The Silkmen’s fate is in their own hands, win their next two games and Sol Campbell has guided them to safety in the Football League. They face Port Vale away on Saturday followed by a home fixture against already safe Cambridge United on the final day.
If they win away at their club legend John Askey’s Port Vale this weekend and Yeovil and Notts County both either lose or draw, Macc will be safe.
23rd- Yeovil Town, 38 points- The Glovers were in the Championship in just 2014 but could slide out of the league now. They face a tricky test against Northampton Town away this weekend followed by Carlisle United at Huish Park the week after.
Yeovil are two points behind Macc but have a marginally better goal difference (two goals).
24th- Notts County, 38 points- It has been a disastrous season for the Magpies. They are onto their third manager of the season in Neal Ardley after Kevin Nolan left in August and Harry Kewell’s time at Meadow Lane was short lived.
They face Grimsby Town at home on Saturday and end the season away to Swindon Town. Their goal difference is the worst of all three sides. County will have to rely on favours from other teams if they are to stay in League Two.
Verdict- You can never predict what will happen but Macclesfield are in the ascendency at the moment. Campbell has done an impressive job with the Cheshire side and it would be some feet if he managed to steer them to safety considering they were rock bottom when he took over. It will be a shame to see one of (or both) of Yeovil and Notts County to go down as the National League is such a tough league to get out of.
