Leeds United scouts sent to watch Barcelona youngsters in action

Leeds United since Andrea Radrizzani took over the reins at Elland Road have turned a corner. One of the first things he did was rebuild the youth teams at the club.

These youth set-ups, the lifeblood of many a club, had been left to go fallow to such a degree at Elland Road that they weren’t realistically competitive. All that changed under Radrizzani.

A revolution was set in motion last season, with Victor Orta bringing in young players from some of the continent’s big clubs. Players from the likes of Real Madrid, Ajax and Barcelona started to pitch up at Thorp Arch. They were supplemented by rated English youngsters and fortunes started to change.

This season the Under-18s have massively improved and the Under-23s have won their league at a canter. They are also on course for a double in the Premier League Cup.

That success criteria, born of locating foreign talent and bringing it to Elland Road, is still underway according to Spanish media site Sport. Sport is reporting that Leeds United were one of 20 clubs who sent scouts to watch the encounter between Valencia B and Barcelona B.

With 20 sides being represented at the match, which Barcelona B list, there are obviously no shortage of sides that Leeds would be competing against for signatures. Sides mentioned in the above article include Premier League Everton and Serie A outfit Sassuolo.

Of course, there’s no indication as to who any side are looking at, but there’d be an array of players to choose from. Players mentioned in the article include: Riqui Puig, Miranda and Abel Ruiz who have all had exposure for Barcelona’s first team.
