Derby County’s Martyn Waghorn has told the club website that he is looking forward to their Easter Monday match against QPR.
The Rams are coming off the back of a draw with Birmingham City, coming from behind twice in order to claim a point. This means they are three points off 6th placed Middlesbrough with Derby having four more games to play, including this Monday’s fixture against QPR. The R’s lost on Friday to Blackburn Rovers and they are yet to be mathematically ruled out of being relegated yet, though admittedly it would take a lot for them to drop down a league now.
And with Derby being so close to getting a place in the Sky Bet Championship play-offs, Waghorn can’t wait for the match, especially with them playing at home compared to their rivals who will be playing away in this crucial Easter clash.
He said: “We know what this league is all about,”
“Key teams are going to pick up points against each other and the fact that we are still in it, going into a home game on Monday, it is a big opportunity again to pick up three points heading into the last busy period of the season.”
“We have just got to go home and get three points. We need the fans, it is a big game and it is important.”
“We know QPR are quite similar in terms of solid shape, they are set up very well and get the ball forward and cause problems in behind.”
“It might be difficult and a bit frustrating, probably, but I think the way we are playing, we are confident, we are hungry and with the fans behind us at home we can really set our marker down.”
