Blackburn Rovers’ Danny Graham has told the club website that he credits their grit and determination as the reason they beat Nottingham Forest 2-1.
This victory was a monumental one as it officially marked Blackburn as being safe from relegation. But Blackburn were made to work for it by a Nottingham Forest side looking to bounce back from a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday during the week.
Blackburn got the first goal thanks to a stunner from Joe Rothwell and they were able to double that lead just after the second half started when Graham scored, his 150th goal in his career. But Blackburn had to work hard to avoid drawing as an own goal from Elliott Bennett gave Forest a lifeline and a chance to come back. But Blackburn were able to hold out and got their win while Forest’s chances at the Sky Bet Championship play-offs were significantly reduced.
Graham was delighted at the win and said it was down to the determination from this Blackburn side. He said: “It was a lot different to how we performed on Tuesday night,”
“We had two show a lot of grit and determination and defended really well when we had to.”
“I just want to keep contributing to the team, whether that’s by scoring goals or getting assists. It’s nice to score goals, but I’ve not had any targets. We have four games left so hopefully I can add to the tally.”
“The story of our season has seen us get into a comfortable position before letting opponents back into games. We had to dig in and it’s now two wins on the bounce, which is very pleasing.”
“The centre halves were massive for us. I’m pleased for them and they’ve probably won us the three points for the effort they’ve put in.”
“Joe’s been desperate to play over the last few weeks and it’s a great finish, right into the top corner. Hopefully he can take that confidence into the rest of the season and take it into the next campaign.”
