Matt Grimes slams Swansea City as naive following QPR battering

Swansea City’s Matt Grimes has told Dai Sport that they were naive in their 4-0 loss to QPR.

The Swans would have expected to win in Saturday’s match as they had been in good form and were set to face a side in crisis after they sacked Steve McClaren following a poor run of form on their part. But as it turned out, Swansea would meltdown early on in the game and hand the managerless R’s a fantastic victory.

In the first 17 minutes, QPR had won the game by scoring three goals. Darnell Furlong got them off to a great start after netting after three minutes and this was followed by a brace from Tomer Hemed, leaving Swansea shellshocked. They never recovered form this early onslaught and QPR were able to wrap up a very impressive victory with a goal from Massimo Luongo in the second half.

Grimes was angry with the performance and made his feelings heard after the match. He said: “They started on the front foot, they pressed us well and I thought we were a little bit naive to be honest.”

“We were off the back of three fantastic performances and three home wins and I think we thought we could come here and it would go our way.”

“But obviously they are in a position where they are scrapping for every point and you could tell that.”

“Then when you are 3-0 down after barely 15 minutes you have a mountain to climb.”

“We are not happy with how we played, no-one can be. We have to try and pick ourselves up from that and try and get back on track against Rotherham.”

“They were so aggressive and we seemed caught off-guard and it’s really disappointing. They got after us, they did it well and thoroughly deserved the win.”

“We’ve had a good couple of weeks overall, but we have to learn from this quickly.”
