Derby County offer five-year deal to international midfielder after talks

According to The Press and Journal, Derby County have offered Aberdeen midfielder Graeme Shinnie a five-year contract at Pride Park, after he visited the club’s ground on Thursday.

Reports from Scotland have claimed that Championship side Derby County have made a five-year contract offer to Aberdeen’s Scottish midfielder Graeme Shinnie, after it emerged that he was shown around the club’s ground on Thursday.

Graeme Shinnie has been attracting significant interest from sides from England and Scotland in recent months. The Scotsman’s contract with Aberdeen is set to expire at the end of the season a host of sides are looking to snap him up on a free transfer.

Championship sides Derby County, Sheffield United, Bristol City and Wigan Athletic have all been credited with interest in the versatile midfielder, while Scottish Premiership duo Hearts and Rangers were also in the chase. League One pair Sunderland and Luton Town are also mentioned in the report from The Press and Journal.

However, it seems that Derby are the side that have jumped ahead of the chasing pack, and they have now reportedly made their move. With a deal on the table, Shinnie is open to sign the deal before the transfer window opens and seal a deal before joining the club at the start if the upcoming window.

The 27-year-old has been a mainstay in the Aberdeen lineup since joining from Inverness C.T in 2015. Playing at both left-back and defensive midfield, Shinnie has conjured up 185 appearances for Aberdeen, collecting 12 goals and 24 assists along the way.
