Fleetwood Town manager Joey Barton is thought to want to bring Rangers midfielder Jason Holt back to Highbury next season according to reports by the Daily Record.
The 26-year-old Musselburgh-born midfielder has been on loan at the Lancashire outfit for most of this season but has seen his spell with The Cod Army ended early due to injury.
Holt made 36 appearances in all competitions for Fleetwood Town in which he scored two goals and the player made a positive impression on his manager. It has now been reported that Town boss Barton would like to bring the midfielder back to Highbury next season whether than be on a permanent deal or another loan arrangement.
Holt’s situation with parent club Rangers is unlikely to have changed from last summer. The player was made available for transfer by Steven Gerrard and The Gers boss is still likely to entertain future transfer enquiries for the Scot. Holt has just a year remaining on his deal at Ibrox and Rangers could cash in on him this summer rather than lose the player for nothing in a little over 12 months’ time.
The midfielder started his career with Hearts where he spent 13 years prior to joining current club Rangers in summer 2015. Holt has made 116 appearances in three seasons with the Glasgow giants prior to being loaned out by the club to Fleetwood Town last year.
Holt already has two promotions on his CV and the player is wanted by Fleetwood Town to lead another promotion charge.
