Middlesbrough manager praises three youngsters but admits there is one disappointment

Middlesbrough manager Tony Pulis has been full of praise for three youngsters making their way in the first team.

Middlesbrough have been notorious for promoting youth, with the likes of Stewart Downing, James Morrison, Lee Cattermole and Adam Reach coming through the ranks.

Dael Fry, Lewis Wing and Marcus Tavernier are the three currently making waves in the first team, with plenty of other youngsters making an impression in their respected age groups at the club.

Manager Tony Pulis was full of praise for the trio in an interview which appeared on TeessideLive, and also saluted the academy as a whole.

“Fry has been outstanding for a kid of his age – to play week in, week out at the level he has played.

“Lewis [Wing] has been outstanding,

“So put Tav in there as well, three of the kids have come through this year which is brilliant for the club. For the money that’s invested into the Academy, you’ve got to see returns and those three have been very good.”

However, Pulis did reveal he has one regret when it comes to the youngsters’ playing time.

“If I’ve got a bit of a disappointment it’s that Tav hasn’t had as many games as he deserves,” he admits.

“He’s going to be a top player. He’ll eventually play in the Premier League.

“He’s still a little bit….some days he comes in and he’s brilliant, some days he’s a bit lackadaisical.”

“There’s a lot more underneath that will come through as well. The future, hopefully, fingers crossed, looks really good in terms of the talent and that talent has to be played to give them a chance of getting through.”
