“Peter Clarke walking off the pitch with James Norwood in the back pocket again” – Oldham Athletic fans react to 2-0 win against Tranmere Rovers

Callum Lang found the net twice that saw Tranmere’s winning run come to an end as they suffered defeat at north-west rivals Oldham Athletic.

Latics took the lead after seven minutes when the impressive Callum Lang chased a long ball out of defence, and managed to cut in from the left and drilled his shot inside the near post from 12 yards (1-0).

Tranmere’s first strike on goal was denied by Latics goalkeeper Daniel Iversen when Oliver Banks the ex-Latics midfielder struck a long-range free-kick.

Latics doubled their lead after the hour mark as Mohamed Maouche’s pass allowed Callum Lang to run at the Tranmere’s defence and he struck it into the far corner from 16 yards (2-0).

After the game, Oldham Athletic head coach Pete Wild spoke to the club website about the 2-0 win over Tranmere Rovers: “I’m very pleased, I thought what you saw was a workman like Oldham Athletic performance.”

“Let’s be honest they’re a really good side, so we had to do a lot of defending in the second half, but we did it excellently with a lot thrown at us.”

“It proves to us again that we’re a tough team to play against when we’re on our game.”

“I was confident all day, I thought we had a really good chance today and I know what our squad is capable of.”
