England, Ex-England manager has been sacked by QPR

Ex-England manager has been sacked by QPR

Ex-England manager Steve McClaren has been sacked by QPR, confirmed by the club website.

Ex-England manager Steve McClaren has been sacked by QPR, he spent less than a year in charge of the football club.

Steve McClaren was England boss between August 2006 and November 2007, became manager of QPR in May 2018.

Although, McClaren guided QPR to the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time since 1997, QPR have only won once in the Championship since 26th December. This has left QPR 17th in the table, eight points above the relegation zone.

It has been a tough job for the ex-England manager as QPR have been working under financial restrictions following the club’s £42m settlement with the English Football League last summer for breaches of Financial Fair Play regulations during the 2013-14 season.

It has been conformed that John Eustace will take over first-team affairs in the interim period while the search for a new manager begins.

QPR CEO Lee Hoos said: “Making a decision such as this is never easy, particularly when you are talking about someone as professional and dedicated as Steve.”

“We are grateful to him for all his efforts during his time with us. It is well documented that we are in a period of transition as we work hard to make the club financially stable. With that comes challenges, not least the cutting of the wage bill while aiming to remain competitive.”

“As we look to the future, and taking recent results into account, we feel now is the right time to re-evaluate where we are.”
