Leeds United set sights on Fulham midfielder

Leeds United are interested in Fulham midfielder Stefan Johansen.

The Norwegian international is currently on loan at Championship side West Bromwich Albion but is attracting attention from their fellow promotion rivals, according to Football Insider.

Johansen, who is 28-years-old, joined the Baggies in the January transfer window and has since played five games for them.

His contract at Fulham is set to expire in the summer and with it looking like the London side will be back in the second tier next season, he is expected to leave on a free.

Leeds are already in the hunt for summer reinforcements despite now knowing what division they will be in in the next campaign. Johansen is believed to be on Marcelo Bielsa’s transfer wish list.

He was an integral part of the Fulham side that won promotion to the Premier League last season under Slavisa Jokanovic but has since been frozen out by the Cottagers.

Johansen, who has 46 caps for Norway to his name, started his career in his native country with spells at FK Bodø/Glimt and Strømsgodset before moving to the UK to join Scottish Premiership giants Celtic in January 2014 for a fee of around £2 million.

He spent two-and-a-half years in Glasgow and helped the Hoops win the Scottish Premiership three times as well as the Scottish League Cup. Johansen was then snapped up by Fulham in August 2016 for an undisclosed.

He could offer Leeds another option in midfield next season and has proven he has quality.
