According to a report from The Mirror, Premier League side Arsenal are interested in a possible move for midfielder Joe Aribo, who is currently playing for Charlton Athletic.
Charlton Athletic’s star midfielder Joe Aribo is reportedly on the radar of Premier League club Arsenal.
Joe Aribo’s contract with the Addicks is set to expire at the end of the current season and clubs are looking to pounce to try and seal a bargain deal. Premier League side Arsenal are the latest to join the chase, the Mirror has said.
The report claims that the Gunners have been keeping tabs on the Charlton midfielder for some time now, watching him play over the course of the 2018/19 League One season.
Charlton did offer Aribo a new contract last summer, but the club withdrew their offer and returned with a second contract offer – but on half the money. As a result, the deal was turned down and the saga regarding his future with the League One side remains unsolved.
If the two parties fail to agree on a new deal Arsenal will only have to pay a compensation fee to secure his services.
The 22-year-old joined Charlton from non-league side Staines Town after a successful trial period. He didn’t make any appearances for the club during his first season at The Valley but broke into the first team the season after upon their relegation to League One.
Since then, Aribo has gone on to play for Charlton on 84 occasions, picking up 12 goals and 12 assists along the way as well (Transfermarkt).
