Barnsley have turned up the heat on Sky Bet League One leaders Luton Town after beating Walsall 1-0 at the Banks’s Stadium.

Jacob Brown netted the only goal of the match from close range deep in second half injury time as The Tykes reduced the gap between themselves and top spot to two points, at least for a few hours.

The first half produced plenty of energy and enthusiasm from both sides but chances were few and far between.

George Dobson’s effort from distance was the closest which the home side came to breaking the deadlock while Mamadou Thiam forced a good save from home keeper Liam Roberts.

Ben Williams saved Barnsley’s blushes in the second half when he cleared Corey Blackett-Taylor’s effort off the line.

The Tykes keeper Jack Walton then produced a good save from Zeli Ismail’s shot before Dobson did the same at the other end when Cauley Woodrow took aim.

It looked like the two sides were set for a share of the spoils until Brown prodded the ball home from close range two minutes into second half stoppage time to keep the momentum going for Daniel Stendel’s Barnsley side.
