According to the Daily Star, Leeds United are one of five teams interested in £5m rated Barnsley defender Liam Lindsey.

The Whites, who are challenging for promotion from the Sky Bet Championship to the Premier League face competition from Aston Villa, Brighton and Scottish giants Celtic with Stoke City also said to have an interest.

The Star say that Villa are the front-runners for the Barnsley ace, but that Leeds United and the others “are also keen” on the League One star. The £5m quoted fee will represent more than a good deal for the Tykes, the South Yorkshire outfit having paid just £350,000 to Partick Thistle to land him in the summer of 2017.

The 23-year-old, 6’3″ centre back has definitely caught the eye of admirers with his consistency for a Barnsley side who are in the play-off picture in League One.

He’s featured in 35 league games for Barnsley this campaign, contributing one assist – also adding a goal in the Checkatrade Trophy against Manchester City’s star-studded Under-23s. These 35 games form a part of the 85 games he’s featured in for the Tykes.

There’s a long way to go before early May and the culmination of what has been an enthralling campaign so far for both Leeds United and Aston Villa fans. Leeds have been riding high near the top all season, giving their fans scintillating football at times. For Villa, a recent surge has seen them shake off earlier ropey form and hit the top-six, play-off positions.

Whatever the run-in both sides might have, it appears that summer interest might be playing on their minds with Lindsay.
