Middlesbrough winger Rajiv van La Parra has not made the impact he would’ve hoped for when he arrived from Huddersfield on a short-term loan.
The Dutchman has played in just three matches for Middlesbrough in the Championship this season, and has started none of those. He has been limited to 45 minutes at most in a game, and has been dropped from the entire matchday squad for the previous three fixtures against Brentford, Preston and Aston Villa, with Boro losing all three games.
van La Parra previously posted a cryptic message online after being dropped from the squad two weeks ago, and has again returned to Instagram to have another dig at Middlesbrough and at manager Tony Pulis.
The winger published a compilation video with highlights of himself during the past few seasons at Huddersfield Town. The caption reads ‘Stars can’t shine without darkness’, suggesting he is being kept in the dark at his new club.
Given Pulis’ admission that Middlesbrough lack width, it is difficult to see why van La Parra has been omitted from the squad in recent weeks, albeit in preference of two wide players – Stewart Downing and Marcus Tavernier.
When he originally signed for Boro on loan, it was primarily to get minutes under his belt. This was confirmed by then-manager of the Terriers David Wagner.
Speaking in an interview which was published on Huddersfield Town’s official site, Wagner said, “Rajiv is 27 and understandably wants to play regular football, which is not something I can offer him at Huddersfield Town right now.”
