Sheffield United striker was open to staying at Ipswich Town last summer

Sheffield United striker David McGoldrick has said he was open to staying at Ipswich Town last summer.

The former Tractor Boys’ boss Paul Hurst, who lost his job in October, decided against offering the 31-year-old a new deal and McGoldrick made the move to Sheffield.

He has since become a hit at Bramall Lane and has scored 12 goals in all competitions for Chris Wilder’s promotion chasing side this season.

Speaking to The Times, McGoldrick has opened up about his situation last summer: “I was open to staying there (Ipswich) but the new manager (Hurst) came in and said no”.

McGoldrick was believed to be the highest paid player at Portman Road in the last campaign. He spent some time training with Nottingham Forest before joining the Blades.
