Patrick Bamford slams Sheffield United for thinking they are up already

Leeds United’s Patrick Bamford has told the Sheffield Star that he thought Sheffield United were celebrating like they had already been promoted.

The Sheffield United – Leeds match is always a big one due to the rivalry between the two sides but this time it was even more heated because both teams are competing for a place in the automatic promotion places. In the end, it was advantage Blades as Chris Basham scored the only goal of the game, moving them into the top two and dumping Leeds into 3rd place.

The game changed the automatic promotion race but it is definitely not the end with only one point separating the two sides with eight games to go. Leeds striker Bamford though said that it appeared like United were celebrating like they had already been promoted and that the Blades should be reminded that there are still a lot of games left in the season.

He said:”Hearing them (the fans) and hearing the Sheffield United boys, it was as if they already think they’re up,”

“It’s eight games to go and there’s still a lot of points to play for. Nothing’s written in stone yet.”

“If someone puts together eight straight wins then fair enough, they deserve to go up,”

“But this game hasn’t decided the promotion race. It’s given Sheffield a little edge. ”

“For us we’ve got to just focus on the next game and forget about this because we can’t really criticise the performance too much.”

Leeds will hope to get their promotion bid back on track in their next match against Millwall.
