Why the Sheffield Wednesday captain is delighted for the international break

Sheffield Wednesday captain Tom Lees has told the Sheffield Star that he is delighted that the international break has come when it has.

The Owls have been on a great run of form since the appointment of Steve Bruce as their new head coach. They have gone 12 games unbeaten in the Sky Bet Championship with that run continuing with a 4-2 win over Blackburn Rovers at the weekend. This means that Wednesday are now just two points off the play-offs and if this run continues promotion is a real possibility.

With the club having so much momentum, you’d think the players would be disappointed that an international break means they will have to wait a fortnight until their next match. But their captain Lees is very happy about the upcoming break. He thinks that having this time to rest and prepare for the last eight games of the season will help in their push for the play-offs.

He said: “I think we have got a few tired bodies, it’s been a long run since the last break, we’ve got a few injuries that after the break will be ready to be involved.”

“But hopefully everybody can have a good rest now and it’s one last push. For an hour or seventy minutes we were in control and probably got too comfortable.”

“They made some changes and committed a lot of men forward and caused us problems and then we looked like we could have scored on the counter attack due to how many men we had forward. Luckily we had enough goals to keep ourselves clear of any trouble.”
