Millwall have been knocked out of the FA Cup after losing to Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion on penalties yesterday at The Den.
The Lions stormed into a 2-0 lead after goals from defender Alex Pearce and Aiden O’Brien and looked to have booked their place in the Semi-Finals at Wembley.
However, the Seagulls fought back in the latter stages of the game and pulled a goal back through striker Jurgen Locadia.
The referee added on five minutes and the hosts seemed to have done enough for the win before Solly March’s last gasp free-kick slipped through the fingers of Millwall goalkeeper David Martin to send the game to extra-time.
It was a nervy half an hour for both set of sides in extra-time and the fixture eventually went to penalties where Brighton were able to keep their cool in front of the travelling fans and secure a trip to the capital to face Manchester City in early April.
Millwall fans will be bitterly disappointed with how close they were to sealing the win. Here is how their fans have reacted on Twitter to the loss against Brighton-

For some reason, I thought I’d look back at Moscow after the disappointment from today. Such a similar feeling – having got all the way there, to fall at that hurdle was gutting. I just hope that performance sets a standard and we can push on until the end of the season #Millwall https://t.co/Kei4pFoYqe

Forget the result. Today was what Millwall is all about for me. Fight, passion, togetherness and one big family, as a whole club. And yet people still find a reason to moan. We all wanna win every game but today them players done us proud and gave their all! 💙 #Millwall

So many things went for #Millwall today that I really thought it was going to be our day. The penalty in the 1st half, the foul in the 1st goal, the offside call in extra time, Murray missing the 1st penalty… the players & fans were magnificent today. Another 9 cup finals to go

This is the Millwall I love, we were a couple of minutes away from the semi finals of the FA cup and another Wembley trip, but we end up heart broken. Rather than moan and whinge about it, our fans come out with support and praise for our players. Proud to be #Millwall
