It was one of those clichéd ‘six-pointers’ of a game was today’s game between Leeds United and Sheffield United at Elland Road. It was a game where a win for one side would be a vital three points won.
Both sides came into the game with five wins from their last six games. It was second versus third and something had to give. In the end it was Leeds United who gave, going down 1-0 and dropping to 3rd in the table.
Leeds were the team with all the possession, dominating large tracts of the game. They were on top at times and forcing Sheffield United into, at times, desperate defending.
Yet, despite all the chances that they created, despite the pressure, it was Chris Basham’s 71st minute goal that was the difference between the two Yorkshire sides. In doing so, he lifted the Blades above the Whites; the two swapping places.
That means that the Blades continue their incredible run of both results and clean sheets. It also means that it is back to the drawing board for Leeds United as they enter the international break.
Next up for the Whites is another home game against Millwall, a game that promises to be another fizzing with intensity. For the Blades, it’s back to Bramall Lane for a game against play-off challenging Bristol City.
It was a game bound to draw reactions from both sets of fans. Here’s what some of them had to say after today’s game at Elland Road.

Gutted with that today, we had our chances but when you don’t take them your always vulnerable to suffering a sucker punch. No complaints wit the red card but I thought the ref was very lenient with some decisions for lack of cards handed out. #lufc
