Remember when they released the plastic £5 notes and there were people trying to flog them on FleaBay for ridiculous amounts due to AK47 or low AA serial numbers?
Yep, pretty much everyone does. I mean, did you start checking these numbers to see if you’d got a ‘rare’ fiver in your possession? Whichever way you look at it, a £5 note can only buy you £5 worth of gubbins.
It’s the same with that well-used, clichéd phrase of ‘it’s a six-pointer’ when it comes to crunch games. That is a term that could easily be applied to the lunchtime kick-off between Leeds United and Sheffield United at Elland Road today.
Big game – fine differences
It’s going to be called a ‘six-pointer’ as home side Leeds, and visitors Sheffield, are almost neck-and-neck in the Sky Bet Championship table.
Leeds are second, occupying that spot in the table on 73 points and trail leaders Norwich by just two points. The visiting Blades sit two points behind the Whites, on 71 points. It will be a game that will also see two sides going at it with five wins from their last six games.
Leeds United have strengths, so do their counterparts from South Yorkshire. Whereas Sheffield United will be looking to their front two for a spark, Leeds United will be looking to their midfield engine room to be on the burn.
Whichever way you look at it, whatever your partisan alignment, this is going to be a defining game for both sides. A win for Sheffield United will raise them to 2nd place, stretching the gap to 4th place West Brom to 10 points.
A win for Leeds United will open a five-point gap between themselves and the Blades. They will also take top spot by a point and have 12 point gap to the 4th place spot occupied by the Baggies.
With just eight games left after this one, opening a five point gap to third could be just enough to give added impetus to that promotion push that Whites fans are crying out for.
In a way, it’s easy to see why some are using that cliché of ‘a six-pointer’ to describe today’s game.
Leeds United fan feelings ahead of kick-off
Leeds United fans are fully aware of the magnitude of this game. It comes at just the right time; a win will create difference that could very well come in handy as both sides face their end-of-season run-in. Here’s how some are feeling this morning ahead of kick-off.
