Aston Villa boosted their chances of getting into the Play-Offs with a 3-1 win against Nottingham Forest at The City Ground last night.
Two goals from in-form midfielder John McGinn and defender Kortney Hause handed Dean Smith’s side all three points.
Villa are now just two points off the top six after an impressive run of form. It hasn’t been a bad week for the Midlands club after beating bitter rivals Birmingham City on Sunday as well.
Their boss, Smith, was ecstatic after the win against fellow Play-Off hopefuls Forest last night and told their official club website after the game: “We actually started the game really well and then they have scored a fortunate goal. But the response from the players was excellent. We passed the ball really well”.
“I thought the third goal killed the game off. I thought we saw the game out really well from there”.
Smith was full of praise for McGinn: “He’s been our most consistent performer all season so it’s been very difficult to leave him out of the team, especially with how well he’s been doing”
He also added: “There is the Jack Grealish factor, which everyone will talk about. But there’s a new-found belief from the players. I am getting tested, too, now in terms of picking players because I have players available.”
Villa face Middlesbrough on Saturday at Villa Park in what now is a huge game. Smith’s men will be looking to extend their winning streak and close the gap on the top six.
