Sheffield Wednesday have been linked with Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole over the past few days, as reported by The72.

Steve Bruce knows the 30-year-old well from previously managing him at Wigan Athletic and with the Black Cats.

The new Owls boss is already plotting potential summer recruits as he looks to put his own stamp on his newly inherited squad.

Cattermole’s career to date-

Cattermole started out in the North-East at Middlesbrough and rose through the youth ranks at the Riverside. He went onto play 91 games for them in the Premier League before leaving for Wigan Athletic in July 2008 for a fee of around £3.5 million.

After impressing for the Latics in the 2008/09 campaign, Sunderland paid £6 million in August 2009 to bring him to the Stadium of Light.

The tough tackling midfielder has racked up over 250 appearances for the Black Cats since then. However, he hasn’t been able to prevent them from two relegations in the past two seasons.

Nevertheless, he has been a key player under Jack Ross in the third tier in this campaign. Cattermole has scored five in League One in this campaign.
