Leeds United occupy a comfortable 2nd place in the Sky Bet Championship table, this being courtesy of a 1-0 win over Bristol City at the weekend.
The Whites are a side reborn, a footballing phoenix from the ashes, under the guidance of the legendary coach Marcelo Bielsa. The Argentine legend has firmly stamped his authority at all levels throughout the club.
The first-team squad have been changed from mid-table mediocre into promotion challengers. The Under-23 Development Squad are currently eight points clear at the top of their league and are thumping Charlton Athletic’s youngsters at Elland Road. That game ended in a 4-0 win for the youngsters.
However, the bulk of the attention is deservedly on the first-team and their push for promotion. That push is ongoing, as it seems is interest in players for the summer. That’s if this report from Spanish national source AS is to be believed.
AS are reporting that Leeds United have “an option” on Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Iturraspe, a player whose current contract ends in the summer. He’s underused this season for the Basque country side, featuring just four times – twice each in La Liga and the Copa Del Rey.
What he would bring would be something very simple – experience. Iturraspe has a more than decent 231 games under his belt in Spain’s La Liga – where he’s scored three goals and provided seven assists.
His promise brought about two full Spain caps, the Abadiño-born 30-year-old playing in two friendlies against Bolivia (2-0 win) and France (1-0 loss) in 2014.
At the moment, all that is being reported is that Leeds United have an option to take the defensive midfielder in the summer.
