Derby County attacker Mason Bennett limped out of yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday and manager Frank Lampard has revealed that he has suffered a groin injury.
Derby County manager Frank Lampard has said that attacker Frank Lampard has suffered a groin injury, after he was substituted during the first-half of their 1-1 draw with Steve Bruce’s Sheffield Wednesday.
He made way for winger Florian Jozefzoon with 35 minutes on the clock and the scores at 1-0 after midfielder Bradley Johnson headed in at the back post from a Duane Holmes corner.
Sheffield Wednesday evened the game up just before the hour mark. Loanee Dominic Iorfa headed in from Barry Bannan’s free-kick and the points were shared.
Speaking to the Derby Telegraph after the game, Frank Lampard said that Bennett has suffered a groin injury and is hoping that he can return to action soon.
“It is disappointing for Mason because we know he has had a few issues with injuries and muscles,” said Lampard.
“It is a groin injury, I don’t know the extent of it. Hopefully with it being the international break after our game against Stoke, then two and a half weeks or so will get taken up by that.
“We will have to assess him. Hopefully, it won’t be too long. I feel for him because he is so keen to do well,” Lampard added.
“He scored an amazing goal on Tuesday and started the game against Sheffield Wednesday pretty brightly.
“You could see the disappointment on his face. It is unlucky that Mason has had loads of these little moments, but it toughens him up as a character and that is a good thing because he will be ready to get over it.
“He has been here before and he knows the rehab, and how to stay positive. He is an important member of the squad, and very popular as well. We will keep him positive and get him back.”
After Derby’s midweek clash with Stoke City on Tuesday, they will have 17 days until their next game, Hopefully, for Bennett and Lampard, it is enough time for him to recover to full fitness as he looks to build on his decent form.
