David Wagner

Ex-Huddersfield Town boss not interested in vacant West Brom job

Former Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner is not interested in the West Brom job.

The German boss will wait until the summer to see what managerial opportunities arise, according to Sky Sports.

Wagner, who left Huddersfield in January, was a popular man amongst the fans of the Yorkshire side after guiding them to promotion to the Premier League against the odds in 2017.

He then kept the Terriers up in the top flight in the last campaign but resigned from his position a few months ago.

West Brom sacked Darren Moore yesterday following their 1-1 draw at home to rock-bottom Ipswich Town. Their decision has raised some eyebrows due to the fact they are fourth in the league. Wagner’s name was immediately mentioned following Moore’s dismissal.

The Baggies will have to look elsewhere though. The72 picked out five potential candidates for the role earlier today, with former Watford and Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic the early frontrunner.

After parting company with Moore, West Brom’s chief Executive Mark Jenkins told their official club website: “This has been an enormously difficult decision for a Club which will always hold Darren in such high regard.

“He took over at a very difficult time last season and reunited the Club, a contribution that will never be forgotten. But we have made it clear from the outset that everything this season was geared to making as swift a return to the Premier League as possible.”

“Unfortunately Darren has not been able to engineer the consistency of form and results to convince the board that this objective would be met.”
