Southend United starlet on the radar of Champions League quarter-finalists

According to a report from Football Insider, Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a move for Southend United starlet Charlie Kelman.

According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Southend United’s 17-year-old starlet Charlie Kelman is on the radar of Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham Hotspur.

A host of top sides have been keeping an eye on the youngster, including clubs from both the Premier League and the Championship. West Ham are also interested in the young striker, while it was reported in the early stages of the season that Aston Villa were considering a move for Kelman.

Last season, the rapid Kelman scored an unbelievable 61 (yes, sixty-one) goals in the 2017/18 campaign. So, it comes as no surprise that top clubs are eyeing up the potential signing of the starlet.

The 17-year-old’s incredible goalscoring form for the Southend youth sides resulted in a call up to the United States Under-18 National Team in the summer, also featuring for Southend’s Under-23s, where he scored a goal on his debut.

His breakthrough into the first team came during the current season, coming off the bench in an EFL Trophy clash with Southampton’s Under-23s. Kelman made his league debut on December 1st and announced his arrival in stunning fashion.

The American picked up the ball on the halfway line and lobbed Plymouth goalkeeper Kyle Letheren, but his late stunner wasn’t enough to inspire a late fightback and they were defeated 3-2.

He has gone on to make five total appearances for Southend, coming off the bench in each of those games. Kelman has been included in every League One matchday squad since his breakthrough, but his brilliant strike against Plymouth remains his only senior goal.
