Marcelo Bielsa discusses injury progress of three Leeds United players

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has provided fitness updates on trio Jack Clarke, Adam Forshaw and Kemar Roofe.

Leeds United trio Jack Clarke, Kemar Roofe and Adam Forshaw have all been absent of late. And, in his press conference ahead of their clash with Bristol City.

Winger Jack Clarke has been out through illness recently after he collapsed on the sidelines during Leeds’ 1-1 draw with fellow promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough. Tests revealed he had a virus, ruling him out for an extended spell.

He hasn’t featured in about a month, but Bielsa revealed in his press conference (quotes via Leeds Live) that Clarke is returning to fitness, but will not be rushed back into the first team.

“He is well, he’s fit. He will play next week for the under-23s. Probably will be able after this game to be in the main group.”

Bielsa provided a less encouraging update on midfielder Adam Forshaw’s knee injury. He has been absent since their 1-3 defeat to Norwich City and seems set to be away for a little more time yet.

“(Forshaw is) Making slow progress, slower than we thought. We think he is close to his problem being over and we will rely on him soon. His recovery lasts longer than he thought. We thought it would be faster, but the fact it’s taking longer is a basis for him to come back in better condition.”

Finally, the Argentine discussed Kemar Roofe’s recovery from his knee ligament injury. It was revealed in mid-February that the striker was set for “six to eight” weeks on the sidelines. Bielsa didn’t say how long it would be until the 26-year-old returns but said that he is working hard to get back to fitness.

“He is working very hard and he is very serious in his work,” Bielsa said.
