Bristol City will assess the fitness of goalkeeper Niki Maenpaa ahead of their key Sky Bet Championship fixture against Leeds United at Ashton Gate on Saturday according to reports by Bristol Live.
The experienced Finnish stopper is currently struggling with a calf problem and could be doubtful for The Robins’ clash with The Whites.
It has been reported that Bristol City medical staff will assess the player before manager Lee Johnson names his team on Saturday with youngster Max O’Leary set to deputise should Maenpaa be deemed to be not fit enough to feature.
Maenpaa joined Bristol City in August and has established himself as the club’s first choice goalkeeper. The 26-time capped Finnish international has made 26 appearances for The Robins in all competitions, keeping six clean sheets in the process.
Bristol City go into their fixture against Leeds United in good form. Since their 2-0 defeat at Elland Road in November, Johnson’s men have lost just once in the Sky Bet Championship. That defeat came in their last home fixture against Birmingham City.
Victory over Leeds United on Saturday would see The Robins retain their place in the Sky Bet Championship’s top six. The club are currently occupying the last play-off spot with Frank Lampard’s Derby County side breathing down their necks.
