Blackburn Rovers loanee to consider long-term future this summer

Blackburn Rovers loanee Harrison Reed has said that he will have discussions with Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl regarding his long-term future this summer.

Blackburn Rovers loanee Harrison Reed is currently on his second loan spell away from Premier League side Southampton in as many seasons. Last season he featured heavily for Norwich City and he has played regularly at Ewood Park this season.

The midfielder has said that his two loan spells away have been valuable in helping his development, but he is looking to play in the Premier League next season if possible.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, Reed said:

“I haven’t had a conversation with the new manager there yet. I have had numerous conversations with the manager here (Tony Mowbray) but I will see what happens in the summer.

“I need to have a conversation with Southampton, debrief the loan move. I want to be playing in the Premier League.

“It’s been strange. I have seen managers come and go. This manager (Hasenhuttl) seems to be very good, the feedback I have had from the lads at Southampton has been really good.

“If I have the chance then I look forward to working with him.”

Reed went on to add that playing out of his natural position has helped him develop as a player. During his time at Carrow Road with Norwich, Reed was often used as a wing-back and he has been deployed at right-back for Blackburn on occasions as well.

“I came here to play lots of football and learn from a new manager and different types of football and styles,” Reed said.

“I’ve been playing out of position a little this season but I’m enjoying it and looking to add another string to my bow. I am a central midfielder and that’s where I like to play but I want to play at 3pm on a Saturday. Every player wants to do that whether that’s in your position or another one to help the team.

“I’m happy to do that and happy with how the season is going. It’s very important in my development to come out and get the games that I have done. Now I have had a taste of that I don’t want to let that go. I want to keep playing football, progressing and improving as a player.”

The 24-year-old has played 31 games in all competitions so far this season, picking up three goals and five assists along the way. He will be hoping that he can continue to play a role in Rovers’ side as the end of the season nears.
